Blizzard Bag #1

B-Block English 12: Work on research paper if not already completed.  Work on personal resume if not already completed.

A1 and A2 AP Lit: Let's try one of those 40-minute essays.  I've selected one I'd like you to attempt, and I'd like you to get yourself all set up with two pieces of paper and a writing utensil before you start.  It should be hand-written.  Please set a timer so that when you begin, you limit yourself to finishing within the 40 minutes.

Here are a few things I would have said if we were together doing this in class:
1.) The prompt says to "choose a novel," but I'd like you to all "choose" Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
2.) Be sure to show analysis of what the author is doing, how she accomplishes it, and why it matters in terms of the MOWAAW
3.) Use precise and accurate vocabulary whenever possible, including literary terms

Good Luck! --Mr. G. :):):)

TODAY'S PROMPT:

From the 2012 AP Lit Exam:

“And, after all, our surroundings influence our lives and characters as much as fate, destiny or any supernatural agency.” --Pauline Hopkins, Contending Forces.

Choose a novel or play in which cultural, physical, or geographical surroundings shape psychological or moral traits in a character. Then write a well-organized essay in which you analyze how surroundings affect this character and illuminate the meaning of the work as a whole.
